Smart Devices & Gaming Systems
For devices such as gaming systems and smart-home devices (Amazon Echo, HomePod, smart lightbulbs, smart plugs, smart speakers, etc) that do not support eduroam, the best way to get them connected to Cedarville's campus wireless network is to register the device online for our cu-manual network.
In order to register, you'll need your device's MAC address. For more information, please see How to find a MAC address on your Device.
If you're still unable to find the MAC address of your device, please contact IT using the information at the bottom of the page for assistance.
Once you're registered, allow 1 business day for the registration to be approved. When your registration is approved, you will receive an email with instructions detailing how to connect your device to the cu-manual network.
Smartphones, Tablets & Laptops
If you have a mobile device that's a not a smart-home device, or gaming system, it can probably connect to the eduroam wireless network without registration. For devices such as Apple and Android smartphones & tablets or Windows and macOS laptops, please see the following:
Devices without Wi-Fi
Devices with Ethernet ports will connect to the internet automatically when plugged into an activated Ethernet port in the residence halls, without registration. To request activation of your room's Ethernet port, please submit a request:
Cu-Manual Compatibility
The following devices have trouble connecting to eduroam, but are known to work well on cu-manual:
- Some Windows phones (v. 7 and 8)
- Kindle Fire tablets
- Some older Android phones (v. 4.0 and before)
- BlackBerry phones
- Windows 8 RT Tablets
The following devices do not work on either eduroam or cu-manual, and are not able to be supported by Cedarville University IT:
- ChromeCast
- Google Home/Google Home Mini
- Nintendo DS (Wireless)
- Nintendo Wii (Wireless)
